Marina Chalonec

Marina Chalonec was born on May 3, 1938, in Cairo, Valle del Cauca, Colombia. She married her first husband, Jose Thomas Ocampo, with whom she has three children: Luz, Jorge, and Martha.

She emigrated to the United States on March 11, 1972, in search of a better life. In time, she met her second husband, Andres Chalonec. Thanks to her determination and hard work, she was able to build a new life and bring her children to join her in the U.S. on April 5, 1979.

Due to health complications, Marina moved from her apartment in New York City to Middletown, where she spent her final six years surrounded by the love and care of her daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter.

Marina passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. She will be remembered for her kind heart, unbreakable strength and the love she generously gave to everyone around her.

She is survived by her beloved children: her eldest daughter Luz Fanny Ocampo, and her husband Daniel Antonio; her son, Jorge William Ocampo, and his wife, Yolanda Ocampo; and her youngest daughter, Martha Cecilia Gutiérrez, and her husband, Luis Fernando Gutiérrez.

She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Carlos Enrique Ocampo, Stephanie Gutierrez, Jonathan Ocampo, Michael Ocampo, Kelly Esther Gutiérrez, and Melissa Antonio; as well as her adored great-grandchildren: Caleb, Josephina, and Royalty.

She is also survived by her siblings: German Salazar, Liderman Salazar, Everardo Salazar, Nenfer Salazar, Ines Salazar, Gustave Salazar, and Mercedes Salazar.

Marina's warmth, resilience, and deep devotion to her family will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at the Ebenezer Church, 50 East Main St, Middletown, NY 10940, from 10 AM to 1 PM. Arrangements were under the direction of Meléndez Funeral Home.

Marina Chalonec nació el 3 de mayo de 1938 en Cairo, Valle del Cauca, Colombia. Se casó con su primer esposo, José Thomas Ocampo, con quien tuvo tres hijos: Luz, Jorge y Martha.

Emigró a los Estados Unidos el 11 de marzo de 1972 en busca de una mejor vida. Con el tiempo, conoció a su segundo esposo, Andrés Chalonec. Gracias a su determinación y arduo trabajo, logró construir una nueva vida y pudo traer a sus hijos el 5 de abril de 1979 para que se reunieran con ella en los Estados Unidos.

Debido a complicaciones de salud, Marina se mudó de su apartamento en la ciudad de Nueva York a Middletown, donde pasó sus últimos 6 años rodeada del amor y cuidado de su hija, su yerno y su nieta.

Marina falleció en paz el 20 de mayo de 2025, a las 5:30 p.m. Será recordada por su corazón bondadoso, su fortaleza inquebrantable y el amor que entregó generosamente a todos los que la rodeaban.

Le sobreviven sus queridos hijos: su hija mayor, Luz Fanny Ocampo, y su esposo, Daniel Antonio; su hijo, Jorge William Ocampo, y su esposa, Yolanda Ocampo; y su hija menor, Martha Cecilia Gutiérrez, y su esposo, Luis Fernando Gutiérrez.

Deja a sus amados nietos: Carlos Enrique Ocampo, Stephanie Gutiérrez, Jonathan Ocampo, Michael Ocampo, Kelly Esther Gutiérrez y Melissa Antonio; así como a sus adorados bisnietos: Caleb, Josephina y Royalty.
