Jigisha D. Patel (1971–2024)
of Ellenville, NY

Jigisha Patel, age 52, passed away on April 18, 2024 at her home in Ellenville, NY. She was born on May 3, 1971 in Mumbai, India to parents Navnitlal K. Patel and Chandrika N. Patel.
She is survived by her husband Dipak J. Patel; two daughters, Vama and Shyama; a brother, Yatin; her parents, Navnitlal and Chandrika; son-in-law Meru and his parents Raju Bhai and Kavita Ben; as well as her extended family.
Jigisha was raised in a prosperous family that resided in a small village in India called Bavla. She attended school at A K Vidyamandir Institution and graduated from SNDT Arts College.
Jigisha cherished her time in India, where she delighted in the vibrant culture, surrounded by dear friends and family. One of her fondest traditions was attending Garba celebrations during Navratri every year, where she found immense joy and camaraderie.
After getting married in 1993, she relocated to Gujarat, India to live with her husband's family. She welcomed her first daughter, Vama, in 1996. They later immigrated to America in 2002 to establish themselves and create a life there. She and her husband worked very hard to support the family by taking on jobs in different states (Michigan, Georgia, NY) at various gas stations, grocery stores, and even Quiznos. She welcomed her second daughter, Shyama, in 2004. After some time, the family relocated to NY indefinitely, where Jigisha helped manage a local grocery store, Rondout Valley Grocers.
She ceased work after her initial diagnosis of breast cancer at the age of 36. Jigisha achieved full remission during that period but, regrettably, her cancer resurfaced in 2020, and she had been fighting it ever since. Throughout her entire cancer journey, she displayed remarkable bravery.
As a devoted mother and wife, she approached each day with grace and courage, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of her loved ones. Even in the face of adversity, she remained a pillar of strength and positivity. Her radiant smile and laugh filled every room, bringing joy to those around her. She had a multitude of passions, from cooking Indian meals to indulging in shopping to adoring her collection of MAC lipsticks and purses. Additionally, she found joy in the art of couponing, mastering the skill with zeal. Known for her love of dressing up, especially in Indian attire and jewelry, she embraced her inner fashionista with pride.
Jigisha was truly a caring, kind-hearted, and lovable individual. Her legacy of bravery and resilience will forever be cherished and remembered. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
The funeral service was held on April 20, 2024 at Meléndez Funeral Home, 30 Grove St, Middletown, NY 10940.
