Aaron Robert Thomas

Aaron Robert Thomas was born on July 19, 1956 to Leonard A. Thomas and Iduma Lee Moon at St. Mary's Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. He was the oldest of four children, with three younger sisters; Gladys Thomas, Deborah Thomas and Linda Thomas.

Aaron grew up in Park Slope, Brooklyn New York. Although he attended early childhood classes at Our Lady of Lourdes in Harlem, NY., once the family relocated to Brooklyn, New York he and his sisters attended grammar school at Our Lady of Peace and Aaron went on to John Jay High School in Brooklyn, NY where he graduated in 1976.

Aaron would often reminisce about how great it was to grow up on Garfield Place. He marveled that most of the people we grew up with are friends on FB and still keep in touch with each other today. He said Garfield Place was "the best block ever!!"

As a young boy, Aaron worked hard to overcome stuttering and succeeded wonderfully. Aaron had a beautiful voice and sang in the choir at Our Lady of Peace for many years. He was also an altar boy and helped serve mass on Sundays. Aaron was very proud of his service to the Lord. He truly believed in God and His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, praying faithfully.

Aaron was also a Cub Scout and graduated to become a proud Boy Scout, collecting badges for all he learned and successfully accomplished.

As a teen and young man, Aaron loved music and was a very talented dancer! He danced all over the five Boroughs even winning dance contest. He was a member of the original break dancing group J & R Dancers. He had many fans that enjoyed watching him dance and would travel between parties and dance competitions just to see him dance. He was creative and had dance moves never seen before. People were just in awe of his genuine style and ease of movement on the dance floor.

Aaron enlisted in the Army in 1979 and was stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey for basic and Staten Island for specialized training. Once training completed he was then transferred overseas to Germany for two and a half years until he was Honorably Discharged in 1985. Aaron worked for NYC Corrections and then MCC in Manhattan.

Aaron met and married Ivy Alvarado and God blessed their union with a beautiful baby boy, Aaron "TJ" Thomas Jr. They settled in Puerto Rico where Aaron lived for many years learning to speak Spanish. TJ went on to bless his parents with grandchildren. He and his wife Jazmine have a daughter, Nyelle, and a son, Aaron Thomas III.

Aaron eventually returned to New York reuniting with his family and quickly reconnecting with lifetime friends. Aaron made friends easily because everyone enjoyed his company. Special friends he met as a young man are still to this day, his "brothers"!!

Aaron was an avid sports fan enjoying baseball, basketball and football. His favorite baseball teams were the NY Yankees and sometimes, the NY Mets. Although his favorite basketball team was the Boston Celtics, he was very proud of the NY Knicks winning the 2026 championship after a 53 year drought. He was ecstatic!! He is a loyal NY Giants fan and in the past couple of years adopted the Buffalo Bills, becoming a true blue member of the Bills Mafia. Aaron also enjoyed wrestling and was a big fan of WWE for decades and still enjoyed watching them on TV.

Aaron had a great sense of humor and loved to watch comics perform live! His all-time favorite was old TV shows, especially THE HONEYMOONERS. You could hear his belly laughs down the hall!! Recently, he started watching TWO AND A HALF MEN reruns often commenting how funny the show was and his favorite character, "the kid". He was also a big fan of STARZ, watching POWER and GHOST on his tablet.

Aaron was a little competitive and enjoyed playing games; cards and dominoes and was really great at Bingo entertaining all who joined him.

Aaron was a handsome man and a big flirt. Women of all ages gravitated toward his good looks and his charming personality! He would flatter and compliment every woman he encountered. They all loved him and wanted to dance with him!! Aaron made everyone feel special. He was endearing and his smile and sense of humor could light up a room. He was a great story teller captivating audiences with the delivery and timing of unexpected punch lines and surprise endings.

Aaron's spirit was one of a kind! His greatest gift to this world was his kindness and compassion. He was very helpful to people in need and a blessing to senior citizens he met throughout his life.

Aaron loved his family and his family loved him very much. Aaron especially loved his son TJ very much!! He was extremely proud that TJ followed in his footsteps and joined the military serving eight years in the Navy. He always said "that's my boy, I'm so proud of him." He often said TJ was the best thing he did in his life and he was proud of the man he has become.

In his 60's Aaron began having health concerns due to diabetes which resulted in the loss of his right leg at mid-thigh and his left toes to diabetes in 2022 and 2023. He would continue to struggle with his health, developing heart disease, lung and kidney issues until his body grew tired and he succumbed to his illnesses. The loss of his leg deeply affected his spirit, but he persevered and fought the good fight! Now he can rest in peace, no more pain, no more suffering. He has gone home to glory where he will join our mother, father and baby sister.
